Space Shuttle

Single. Very long tube is red on upper surface, crimson underneath with yellow-green recurved tips. Corolla in addition to the red tone opens light yellow with an orange base maturing to light orange. Stamens, filaments and pistil are all yellow with light olive green stigma. Long tubed small flowers with F. splendens characteristics, very unusual flowering habit, flowers the whole year round, but summer heat spoils the yellow colouring, winter and spring are the best periods. This cultivar is probably a step forward to obtaining a yellow cultivar in combination with the calyx of F. procumbens. Named after the safe landing of Columbia on 14 April, 1981, the same day the cultivar received the Dutch Award of Merit from the V.K.C., The Netherlands. Light-green foliage with ovate, large, slightly hairy leaves. Strong grower. Originally introduced in 1981.
