The National Referee Committee has approved --with the consent of the
National Board of Directors -- the use of the fuchsia (magenta red)
shirt as
an alternate/summer jersey, effective May 1, 1995.
Black shorts and three-stripe socks must be worn (as usual) with this shirt.
Other shirts (orange, solid red, yellow, silver, tan, etc.) are not
authorized in any USSF sanctioned matches.
Referees in professional league matches have been granted special permission
to use different colored jerseys but only in those leagues.
In response to various questions regarding the fuchsia shirt, the
following
are the responses fro the National Referee Program Office:
Q. Regarding "the end of the summer."
A, There is no specific time frame. Warm weather could last as late as
November in the South.
Q. Are black shorts with a fuchsia insert at the pocket acceptable?
A. No. Our aim is to avoid unnecessary expense for the referee.
Q. One team wears black, another team wears a color conflicting with
fuchsia. Can the referee wear a different color?
A. No. The referee should select one of the two colors (black or fuchsia)
that is the least conflicting.
Q. Is a long sleeve fuchsia shirt with black cuff acceptable?
A. Yes, it is.
