2 different dates: 1987 and 1989   (Info. mailed to me by Hans Eggenberger CH-St. Gallen)

[Melanie is a recent introduction in the 'aubergine'-coloured range of fuchsias. I haven't been able to find any information on hybridizer and date (if you know, please E-mail )]: see above
Even if I don't know its origin (I assume it is Dutch. They are good at 'aubergines') I have the cultivar in my collection.
Melanie's petals are as close to black velvet as can be, just when the flower opens. The second day, the black starts turning reddish black / deep burgundy and after a couple of days the flower is almost a wine-red / burgundy self.
The flowers are single and of medium size and profuse. The plant needs some pinching at its early stage.
People either hate the flower colour (how can they?) or are stunned by it. I am stunned.

This cultivar was the "X-cutting" 1998 in the Swedish Fuchsia Society
