It's certainly true that at first glance Japanese seems to be shorter on
descriptive color names than English. It seems you can make color names
as in English, though, in that gray is "ha-iro", or "ash-color".
Lots of colors (notably "pinku") seem to be swiped from English;
surely there _used_ be a name for this? sakura-iro, perhaps?
The one I want to know, and in three years of asking, I've never gotten
an acceptable answer: fuchsia.
