This Fuchsia magllanica gracilis was grown in a pot. It reached a height of about 5 feet (1,5 m) in two years. (It's here standing on a terrasse so it seems higher than it actually is / was).
Grown in pots, the magellanicas can't be left out during winter here in Sweden even if they are very winter hardy. I can imagine though that with a climate with very mild winters you could protect the pot with a blanket or so for the coldest month and make it survive.
6 years ago I gave my 40 largest plants away to Rosendal Gardens here in Stockholm. I had no room in my little house to store them. Among these plants was this magellanica and the Barbara stantard you can see in another picture here.
I remember how I liked to prune this magellanica. I used the shears I had for my hedges and just formed the plant into a nice pillar.
It flowered from May till October with a profusion of flowers. Highly recommended for pot growing. It's also very heat tolerant if you wish so...
